Protocol direct speech
Quotes lack natural conversational elements and sound like a verified written press release.
As the director of the mobile division noted: «The technology is called the connective tissue for the internet of things and smart cities, which will provide unprecedented data transfer speeds».
At the presentation, Wang Yi stated: «Basically, this thing will become the main hub, the lifeblood for all smart devices in the city».
Synthetic speech of officials
In official foreign press releases, the direct speech of speakers is always deeply polished by the PR department: emotions, unfinished thoughts, colloquialisms, and slang are removed from it. When a machine translates such a quote, it turns out absolutely dead and bureaucratic.
AI detectors see such even, soulless direct speech and flag it as generated by a neural network. In fact, it's just the style of corporate translation. Live quotes in authorial articles almost always contain conversational markers ("basically", "this thing") that convey the real intonation of the speaker.
